Alongside our range of signature lighting, we offer a bespoke service where you can commission something special. Designing a piece of handmade craft, tailor-made to suit your specific needs can be a fun experience, and we at Shady want you to enjoy the process.
Skilled fabric lampshade makers, we carry a thoughtful selection of Cotton, Silk, Velvet, Tweed, Lace and Irish Linen which customers can preview by appointment in our Dublin 8 studio. Alternatively, we can ship a selection of fabric samples directly to you. We’re here to advise so please feel free to email with any queries you might have shadyandthelamp@gmail.com
THE WHY?
You know what you want. You can picture it. You've searched high and low, but to no avail. What you find is either poorly made, uninspiring, too big, too small, almost the right colour, but not quite. It is time to consider commissioning Shady and the Lamp to create exactly what it is that you’re looking for.
THE HOMEWORK
It's best to have a reasonably clear idea of size, functionality and colour, if possible. Lampshade sizing refers to the base diameter as this is generally the largest measurement. Is this for ceiling pendant, standard lamp or table lamp? Do you need to add light and warmth or are you considering something more atmospheric and stylized? Maybe you prefer a particular material or colour? This is all very helpful to know when discussing your commission with us.
THE TIMING
Every commission is different so please feel free to get in touch and see what’s possible. The standard lead times are between 2 - 5 weeks but can vary dramatically throughout the year, especially if we’re commissioning bespoke frame-work. We understand that some projects are time sensitive so we always recommend getting in touch as early as possible.
THE PROCESS
An initial email including any details from above with some photographs / measurements, if available, is a great starting point. Photos of the room, lamp base, maybe a screenshot from our social pages etc. The more information we have, the better. We can then either arrange an in-person studio visit or continue designing together online. We’ll be there for you throughout the process to answer any and all questions that might arise.
If you’d like to find out more or discuss a commission, please get in touch.
