2-Day Intermediate Workshop

This is no ordinary lampshade making course - This is a traditional hand-stitched lampshade making course. Over two carefully structured days you'll handcraft your very own lampshade from start to finish, using beautiful materials and traditional sewing techniques. 

Dates: This class will take place over 2 consecutive days. Saturday, February 21st & Sunday, February 22nd

Join Master lampshade-maker Sarah O’Dea for an intimate two day course where you will design, make and leave with your very own stunning hand-sewn lampshade. Sarah is the renowned designer and maker behind Shady and the Lamp, an interiors studio that has been creating bespoke statement lampshades for Ireland’s A-List for the past twelve years. You’ve probably seen her work lighting up hotspots including Lough Rynn Castle, The Dylan Hotel, Marco Pierre White’s and Haddington House, to name but a few.

On this comprehensive two-day course, you will learn how to tailor make a beautiful hand-stitched fringed French Drum Lampshade. You do not need any previous experience however, as there is a lot of hand sewing involved, nimble fingers are a benefit. 

During this two-day course you will learn how to: 

• Bind your lampshade frame using cotton tape
• Draft a pattern - both cover and lining 
• Stretch, fit and pin your fabric to your frame
• Hand sew your fabric to your frame
• Make a balloon lining 
• Fit and pin your lining to your frame
• Hand sew your lining
• Attach and hand sew your fringe 
• Trim/ Braid application 

You will also: 

• Work with premium materials (all included)
• Use a sewing machine and overlocker
• Receive expert guidance in a relaxed studio environment, ensuring you have all the support you need throughout the process.
• Explore the craft of traditional lampshade making. Discover tips and time-honored techniques that will help you refine your skillset and bring your ideas to life.

Included: Everything you need to make a statement hand-stitched 30cm French Drum Lampshade is included - You will be able to select your fabric from our solid silk collection where we will have a variety of colours to choose from however, you’re welcome to bring your own fabric if preferred. Medium weight is best. Also available will be a colourful selection of bespoke trims and chainette fringes for you to choose from.
